May

May have been a busy month, even though it’s filled with longer weekends and mini-holidays. Between renovating parts of our house and work, I still found some time for my other projects. This is what I been up to the last month

Training

As training goes, it feels like i’m at an all time low. I haven’t found the time to focus on exercise, and want to do something about it. This month I went out on the road with my bike again and it felt so good. Then I made myself a goal - to bike at least 50 km each week. It’s not much, but It’s a start.

Development

My side project is a online climbing guide for the area I live in. It’s been going on for a couple of years and I still keep developing it on a regular basis. This month I did some sought after work to optimize the SEO parts of the site, using Next’s built-in Metadata functionality. Hopefully it will rank higher on searches, and the site will have a bigger reach.

We also introduced blog-like articles to the page. The site’s goal is to inspire and inform about outdoors climbing in the area. And until recently it leaned heavily on the informational aspects. With articles we could write more directly to the users and inspire them on the way.

Without going to much into specifics (I promise to do that in another post!), I went for the CMS Keystatic. I didn’t want a to integrate the CMS into our database, nor was a cloud based CMS of any interest. Keystatic seems like a perfect match. It writes directly to our repo, and saves .markdoc files locally. Works serverside and is easy to configure. I stumbled unto som wierd bugs, but now articles are up and running!

Media

Since it’s been a busy month - there have been little time for books, movies and shows. I finished one book, and binged a tv-show half watching, half coding beside my SO.

The Book That Held her heart - Mark Lawrence

Goin into this I was positive, but the third book in this series let me down. A lot of loose story threads and a weak ending made this a disappointing end to a otherwise great and original series.

Next read is John Gwynne’s Shadow of the Gods (I Think!)

Pørni S5

The finale season of this wonderful norwegian tv-show with lovable characters and a great range from deep sadness to loud laughter. Hitting the same notes as Ricky Gervais The Extras or Derek. This finale season was the good ending one was hoping for.

The Last of Us S2

The first half of Part II was an enjoyable watch, even though I already knew the story from playing the games. Got the same feeling afterwards - the story in part II was not nearly as good as the first part. Still, it’s way better than a lot of other stories.

Well, thats all for this month! Summer is soon upon us, and I for one hopes that next month will more relaxed.
